Hey folks! This week's Kickstarter and Gamefound offerings offered up some amazing new titles that are sure to please. The Wild West makes another appearance in the blog this week, this time in the form of an open world exploration game, a unique card game set in the world of Spire's End and a return of one of 2021' most popular dungeon crawlers, this time its MOAR!!!
Bantam West - Kickstarter
Bantam West a 2-4 player open world adventure game set in the Old West. The first title from indie game designer Ike Brunicardi, Bantam West takes board game storytelling and open world exploration to the next level. Adventure is at the heart of Bantam West and the game boasts a cacophony of options to choose from during gameplay. Whereas other games have promised true open world experiences to mixed results, Bantam West may be the closest we’ll see to a board game version of Red Dead Redemption!
Featuring a host of asymmetrical characters and a rich world ripe for exploration and adventure, Bantam West looks set to become a serious contender in the board game world. The game reached its funding goals within the first hour and has since gone on to unlock almost a dozen further stretch goals, adding upgraded components terrain minis, custom inserts and more. Check out the Kickstarter page for more details.
Spire's End: Hildegard - Kickstarter
Spire’s End: Hildegard is a 1 or 2 player dice driven adventure card game that follows the titular heroine as she sets off into the world tasked with her first job, to deliver a simple package. Along the way she encounters bandits, beasts and other characters and events that waylay her journey. Over the course of her adventure, Hidegrad will test her skills in a variety of tasks from simple fishing and exploration to combating enemies and overcoming natural disasters. Featuring a charming storybook art style, the game promises a wealth of plucky adventure in a small package.
The second title from creator Greg Favro, Hildegrad takes place in the same world as Favro’s previous game, Spire’s End. Where the previous title told a more dark, foreboding tale, Hildegrad takes a warmer, gentler approach, a change intended by Favro to create “card game comfort food”. Featuring over 400 cards and split into four chapters, Spire’s End: Hildegard promises hours of quaint co-operative adventure for yourself and a friend.
Chronicles Of Drunagor: Age Of Darkness Apocalypse - Gamefound
This final entry today is by no means the least on this list, in fact, Chronicles of Drunagor: Age of Darkness Apocalypse, the 1-5 player adventure game has proven to be one of the most popular and well received dungeon crawlers of recent times. Creative Games Studio is a startup that hit it big with the original crowdfunded title on Kickstarter and have returned with this updated and expanded iteration of the original game on the newer board game crowdfunding platform, Gamefound. While the original campaign netted an impressive 500k over the course of its entire campaign, the second installment has already blown that figure out of the water by raising more than $1 million in its first day! It’s easy to see why.
There is an absolute dragon’s hoard of content here! Featuring insanely detailed minis, endless expansions and over 200 hours of gameplay, there’s no question that Chronicles of Drunagor is set to replace a lot of dungeon crawlers out there, if for no other reason than gamers will need the shelf space! The gameplay is deeply satisfying with an advancement system that has won the hearts of many, every game results in some form of progression which could mean anything from more powerful skills or spells, to new equipment. Chronicles of Drunagor: Age of Darkness Apocalypse is an ambitious project and seems bound to take the game to the next level. But no need to take my word for it, take a look for yourself over on the Gamefound page, and if you feel it's worth your support, there’s sure to be a pledge level that can suit your budget.
